As cool as it is to see fire and water and other exciting effects, they just arent needed when they slow your experience so much

they keep you alive through vigilance or lifelink, or simply by removing opposing creatures

Once applied, they cannot be negated by any means, but some lingering effects can be overruled by another effect that applies an opposing "cannot" or an alternative lingering/continuous effect
