Tart aromas of apples and quince jelly mingled with dried mango, cola flavoured sweets and the dust of an old fruit cellar. Antique glass sweetie jars were crammed with cherry lips, crumbling chalky lovehearts and fizzy sherbet chews flavoured with violets.
