As an early game play, this card is mostly there to soak up removal from your opponent, which is probably fine

There are plenty of games where they come at you too strong and fast for the Orb to make any difference and would have been much better as anything else however in any game that is at all close the Orb will make a turn or twos difference and swing the game in its controller's favour
